"Just as the economic crisis was hitting every local business, we had a break-through concept last week. Let's not worry about a potential downturn in our business. Let's believe in the law of abundance. Let's give to others. Let's help others," says Joan Hartel, President and Owner of Vantel Pearls.
"The timing of Joan's outreach call last week to New Hope was extraordinary. Not only is October Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but we are currently experiencing an increased need for our services. With our emergency shelters full and hotline calls on the rise, there is more need than ever for the services that New Hope provides. Also, we discovered that Joan sees the creation of a pearl as we do - as a metaphor for people's lives."
"Just as a pearl is a miraculous gift of nature, our experiences including the most challenging ones, shape and form us. It isn't always easy to find the positive within the hardships that we endure, but the hardest times can bring the most profound lessons. If we open ourselves to learn from what life presents us, it is possible to see challenge itself as a precious gift -a treasure - a pearl," says Hartel.
Hartel, founder of Vantel Pearls also serves on the Direct Selling Association Board of Directors in Washington, D.C. Through her guidance, Vantel Pearls has become a vehicle for any individual to begin their own business doing pearl parties and have fun and flexibility while adding to their family income.
At a Vantel Pearls party, real oysters are brought to a Hostess' home. Guests choose their own oyster and each is opened right in front of them. In every oyster, there is at least one genuine pearl. It may be white, pink, blue or even a rare black! Customers may choose to have their pearl mounted onto a necklace, a ring or other settings in Sterling Silver or 14KT Gold.
"This partnership highlights that Vantel Pearls recognizes that domestic violence is a community issue requiring a community response. Like Vantel Pearls is doing, everyone in the community has the power to make a difference and has a stake in making sure a difference is made," said Amanda Nelson of New Hope. New Hope offers a 24 hour crisis and support hotline, two emergency shelters, legal advocacy, support groups, individual counseling, community education and other programs. "These are essential services to people in crisis. We are grateful for all donations that help us fulfill our mission," said Nelson.
It is a critical time for domestic violence awareness according to the Department of Public Health in Massachusetts, which issued an unprecedented public health advisory on domestic violence recently. New Hope is an experienced and effective agency providing services to protect those experiencing family violence.
New Hope's 30th Anniversary Gala Event in March 2009 will incorporate the pearl theme as a metaphor for its survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The pearl is the 30th anniversary gem and symbolizes the emotional and physical journey that survivors make: within the "shell" of New Hope's care and protection, what starts out as grit and sand of an arduous beginning is transformed into a beautiful gem. Thirty years of these individual journeys have resulted in an exquisite "String of Pearls". New Hope's 30th Anniversary "String of Pearls" Gala Celebration will be held at Lake Pearl on Friday, March 20, 2009.
